Lakes

Beech Mountain is home to two beautiful lakes offering some of the most beautiful scenery and best recreational opportunities on Beech Mountain.

Buckeye Lake

Buckeye Lake

Buckeye Lake is the centerpiece of the town`s recreational facilities. The area includes a softball field, playground for the kids, and is the trail head for several of Beech Mountain`s hiking and biking trails.
Coffey Lake

Coffey Lake

A scenic 1/8-mile course wraps around the lake and is perfect for both walking and jogging. A parking area is available with direct access to the trail. This area also has a basketball court. Fishing is also available (license required), duck watching and a new pier dedicated to our leader Mr. Beech, Charlie Burleson.
Wildcat Lake

Wildcat Lake

Wildcat Lake is a premier attraction in Banner Elk, particularly in warmer months. The 13-acre lake is the centerpiece of a public-access facility that includes a white sand beach, swimming pier and fishing dock.

The most popular activities at Wildcat Lake are swimming, fishing and boating. Lifeguards are on duty during summer hours. Boating is limited to non-motorized boats along with canoes and kayaks. Canoe rentals and paddle board rentals are available at various times of the year.

Watauga Lake

Watauga Lake

Watauga Lake, nestled in the Appalachian Mountains and the Cherokee National Forest in northeastern Tennessee, enjoys the most stunningly beautiful lake and mountain views in the `Volunteer State`. Started in 1942 and finally dammed on the last day of 1948, Watauga Lake is the TVA`s highest-elevated reservoir in Tennessee. Surrounded by densely forested mountains in the "high country", Watauga Lake sits 1,959 feet above sea level at "full pool" (full summertime elevation). At Watauga Lake, it`s usually a few degrees cooler than similar locations closer to sea level.
